Universal Related Popup Menus v 2.02

This document describes the features, techniques, and tradeoffs behind WebReference.com's Universal Related Popup Menus and Scrolling Select Lists (URPM). URPM provide a compact way to represent two or more levels of Web site hierarchy in one line, and degrade gracefully for browsers without JavaScript to a redirect CGI script. Highlights of the JavaScript code are discussed in depth with illustrative code fragments.
These popup menus (SELECTs in FORMs) are related, changing one menu changes all submenus, so you can fit entire site hierarchies into one line of popups. A complete rewrite, version 2 features a recursive relate for unlimited levels, and external arrays for multiple related menus per page. Enhanced with JavaScript, they are live for JavaScript-enabled browsers, and gracefully degrade to a redirect CGI so they work on all browsers, either as related (for JavaScript 1.1 browsers), live (JavaScript 1.0 browsers), or as CGI redirects (no-JavaScript). And of course, it's open source.
- webprovider menus

How about having more styles on your menus, opening your menus to different directions, positioning your menus against the browser window easily, floating your menus, or having your menus work across frames?
- DHTML Menus from webfx.eae.net
No matter if you're a site builder or just someone surfin' for something cool, you've reached the right place. On this page you'll be able to find Dynamic HTML samples that you can use on your own pages, all the samples may be used freely for personal use or you may change the source code for your own applications.
- WebFX Demos
(only for IE4 +) (insidedhtml.com)

The WebFX Demos are a collection of Internet Explorer DHTML user-interface widgets that make it easy to enhance your site's user-interface.
The widgets are very easy to use. For each widget, you include one to three scripts on your page using the and in some cases a small stylesheet. Then you follow the directions to author the HTML. That's all! No knowledge of the underlying scripts is required.
- Static Slide Menu with menu generator
One of the coolest and best DHTML navigation menus on the internet. A lot of people like and have given good feedback on it. This is now version 6.5.3.5 which now works in IE4+, NS4.x and NS6. It uses two .js files for the script and some extra styles for it to work

Dynamic HTML Menus -- Using The JavaScript Menu Component (netscape)
The purpose of this page is to provide sample menus illustrating the various styles and different ways you can create menus using the Menu component. If your site uses the Menu component, you can submit your URL for possible posting here in a future update of this page.
- Amazing Glide-In Menu (Cross-Browser)
When an icon is clicked, this script glides in a menu from screen-left. Clicking on the same icon in the menu causes it to slide off the screen, with the triggering icon sliding back in. The script can be set to have either the trigger icon or the menu show on start-up; and the menu and trigger icon positions can be set via script variables. An easy install, and a cool effect.
- Cool Table Menu
Add flare to your menu with Clarence's navigational script! Not only do participating menu items receive a "highlight" effect when the mouse moves over them, but also, a textual description of the containing link. Very cool, and degrades well with all browsers.
- Button Overkill
This takes the image substitution idea one step further to produce a toolbar in which the buttons change appearance in response to mouse movement or actions, and explanatory text appears in a little 'LCD-look' panel on the left.

Dynamic highlight link script
Use this nifty script to add a highlight effect to any link, with the highlight color for each link fully customizable. Great way to add emphasis to particular links on your site! Updated to work in NS 6 too!
- Animated link box
Streamline you links into one box for easy selection and navigation with this script. As an added touch, the script briefly "flashes" the selected link before whisking visitors to it upon clicking the "Go there" button.

Layer Targeting
Cross-browser scripting is often more an art than an absolute science. This article exemplifies this art by providing a way to simulate the best aspects of Explorer's support for the HTML 4.0 IFrame element and Navigator 4.0's support for their proprietary Layer element.

The menus behave just like you would expect a pulldown menu to behave. When you click an item in the menu bar, a menu appears below it, which contains a collection of menu items. When you click one of the menu items, the browser follows the link defined for the menu option.
All the JavaScript is inline. You won't have to add any JavaScript to your pages for menus to work.
Menus are defined using XML

Popup Menu. ( Click any blank space on the page )
The menu is a table with one column and as many rows as you need. The table is wrapped in DIV tags and is hidden until called by the JavaScript. Items can be added or removed from the menu by inserting or removing rows in the table.
The javascript contains two seperate functions. The first deals with Netscape and the second is for IE. The function "detect" is run from the body tag "onload" and determines which of the two functions to run
This is tested on Netscape 4.x and IE 4.x.

- Flyout Menus
The University of Washington Home Page uses DHTML and Javascript to implement "Flyout Menus" in the left column. When the pointer passes over one of these links, an arrow appears next to the item and a box appears next to that showing different options the user can select. If the mouse passes into another one of the links, that menu disappears and the new one shows up. If the mouse passes completely out of the menu and the navigation area, then the menu will go away after a one second delay.
